RV Waste Tote – Is it Worth it?

Here’s what it’s like to use an RV waste tote!

RV Waste Tote, Is It Worth It?

Here’s a typical dump day! We are staying at Ochlockonee River State Park in Sopchoppy, Florida. This park does not have sewer sites. We can go seven days without sewer and we are here for ten days. So, today it dump day.

We will use our Camco Rhino 36 Gallon portable RV tote to dump our black tank and part of our grey tank. This is two trips to the dump station with our waste tote. If our grey tank is full, it requires a third trip. The dump station here is not close. Sometimes you get lucky and it is, but not for us today. It’s a half mile drive to the dump station! All in all today, we drove our little honey wagon two miles to get the job done. Bonus though, the woods here are very scenic, so it’s not all bad. We even saw a deer on one of the dump station runs.

Life Before the Waste Tank

We spent our first year RVing without a waste tote, traveling from Florida all the way to Oregon and the Pacific Coast and back. Our preference for campgrounds are state parks and COE (Army Corps of Engineers) parks. Often, these parks are water and electric only, or less!

Our biggest reason for waiting, we were unsure of how we could store it! Our rig lacks a ladder which so many RVers use to store their waste tote. After taking careful measurements and coming up with a plan to store the tote, we made the purchase. What a game changer! For us, it made longer stays at campgrounds much easier without having to get our motorhome packed up, unhooked and unplugged just so we could drive to dump our tanks. Then, set everything back up! This can really be a pain if you are at a site that is unlevel and leveling takes a little time. You really don’t want to have to go through that all over again!

Our Verdict

What is our verdict? Definitely, worth it! Our tote is a Camco Rhino 36 Gallon Portable RV Tote Tank. We purchased it from Amazon. Also, we found Camco to have great customer service when we had one of the wheels crack. They sent us a new set of wheels and we haven’t had a problem since then. Our waste tote is now three years old. Now, I wonder how long one will last?

What is your verdict? Do you have a waste tote? Are you considering purchasing one?

Happy travels to all!
